Singapore must remain cosmopolitan to survive: MM Lee

"If we are dynamic, we will attract talent, we will grow because we have more talent. When I say talent, it means people who add to the dynamism of that society. Singaporeans, if I can chose an analogy, we are the hard disk of a computer, the foreign talent are the megabytes you add to your storage capacity. So your computer never hangs because you got enormous storage capacity," said Mr Lee.

i say, how many of us sincerely accept these Talents with a capital letter T?

we see them on campus, many on scholarships, competing with us for good grades.
we see them at work, often our superiors, competeting with us for good wages.

if given a choice, how many s'poreans will actually want these FTs here to compete with us for space?

yes.. with competition there will be improvement and growth and blablabla..

have we forgotten the ultimate reason of fighting colonialism to gain independence? i shall remind, that it is to rule the country by ourselves, and bring progress to the society and happiness to the citizens.

do not see economic growth as an end. yes, these FTs may bring about economic growth. may, becuz i am not entirely convinced about that argument. but economic growth should not be seen an end in itself, instead it shld be a mean to bring happiness to citizens.

are singaporeans a happy lot? (have we achieved the main aim of independence?)

i live in a country with super economy, first class airport and port, winning one accolade after another, from most globalized coutry to cleanest city to one of the least corrupt govt.

but i am not happy. becuz the top dictates on all matters.

to quote Martin Luther King Jr. --- Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.

our lives did not even start.
